On this pageOverview

Regions

Summary: Neon projects deploy to AWS regions. The region is fixed at project creation and cannot be changed afterward. Use this page to choose a region close to your application server, or to find NAT gateway IP addresses for outbound connection allowlists. To move data to a different region, create a new project there and migrate.

Neon offers project deployment in multiple AWS regions. To minimize latency between your Neon database and application, we recommend choosing the region closest to your application server.

Each Neon project exists in exactly one region. Your database runs in that region. You cannot change the region for an existing project. If you need your data in a different region, you create a new Neon project in that region and migrate your database there. You are not moving the project; region is fixed when the project is created.

  • 🇺🇸 AWS US East (N. Virginia) — aws-us-east-1
  • 🇺🇸 AWS US East (Ohio) — aws-us-east-2
  • 🇺🇸 AWS US West (Oregon) — aws-us-west-2
  • 🇩🇪 AWS Europe (Frankfurt) — aws-eu-central-1
  • 🇬🇧 AWS Europe (London) — aws-eu-west-2
  • 🇸🇬 AWS Asia Pacific (Singapore) — aws-ap-southeast-1
  • 🇦🇺 AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) — aws-ap-southeast-2
  • 🇧🇷 AWS South America (São Paulo) — aws-sa-east-1

Warning: Azure regions deprecation

Neon Azure regions (azure-eastus2, azure-westus3, azure-gwc) are deprecated. You can no longer create new projects in Azure regions. Projects on the Free plan that have been inactive for 90 days or more are subject to deletion as of October 5, 2026.

If you have projects in Azure regions, see Azure regions deprecation for what's changing and your options.

Not every product is available in every region yet. Postgres is available in all regions listed above; the newer backend products are rolling out region by region.

Request a new Provider / Region

Looking for Neon in a different cloud provider or region? Submit a request through Neon support or let us know in the Neon Discord.

You can select the region for your Neon project during project creation. See Create a project.

All branches and databases created in a Neon project are created in the region selected for the project.

Note: After you select a region for a Neon project, it cannot be changed for that project. To run your database in a different region, create a new project there and migrate your data. See Region migration.

To find the region an existing project runs in, use any of these:

  • Console: open the project and check the Settings widget on the Project Dashboard. The region is listed alongside the cloud provider.
  • CLI: run neon projects list or neon projects get <project_id>. The output includes the region ID (for example, aws-us-east-2).
  • Connection string: the region is the segment before .aws.neon.tech in the hostname. For example, us-east-2.aws.neon.tech is AWS US East (Ohio).
  • API: read the region_id field from GET /projects/{project_id}.

All branches and databases in a project share the project's region, so the project region is the region for everything inside it.

A NAT gateway has a public IP address that external systems see when private resources initiate outbound connections. Neon uses multiple IP addresses per region for this outbound communication, with the number varying by region. To ensure proper connectivity for setups such as replicating data to Neon, you should allow access to all the NAT gateway IP addresses associated with your Neon project's region.

If you are unsure of your project's region, see Check which region your project uses.

Important: Keep your allowlist up to date

Neon connects to external systems (for example, when replicating data into Neon from an external source) through NAT gateways, and adds NAT gateway IP addresses periodically as it expands capacity. If you allowlist Neon's outbound IPs on an external system and don't add the new addresses, those connections can fail intermittently, because Neon may route through a new IP your firewall hasn't allowed.

Allow all NAT gateway IP addresses listed for your project's region, not just the ones you connect through today, and add the new addresses to your allowlist after Neon expands a region. Expansions are announced in the changelog.

NAT gateway IP lists last updated: August 28, 2026.

A Neon project's region does not change after creation. To use another region, create a new project there and migrate your data. See Region migration for paths, prerequisites, and steps.
